Management education is a marriage between theory and practice. Learning management is a much more complex phenomenon compared to learning any other subject. This is because most other subjects, individually, focus on a single knowledge area, while management encompasses multiple areas simultaneously. Furthermore, as management courses are open to students from diverse academic backgrounds, management classes tend to be heterogeneous, making teaching both complex and challenging.
The importance of practical aspects in management education is much greater. Just as one cannot learn to swim solely through theoretical knowledge, one cannot master management by studying theory alone. It requires highly tailored, objective-oriented practice exercises that can be conducted in a classroom while simultaneously simulating real business situations. Our teaching methodology like class lectures and discussions, case method, seminar method, role playing method, prove short of requirement.
The author, on the basis of his long teaching, training and consulting experience, has designed a new teaching and training system which takes care of all the deficiencies. This method is called, ‘Game Oriented Rationalized Integrated Self-motivating Educational System” --The GORISE System. In the GORISE System, learning is done in five steps namely: curiosity, retention, comprehension, conviction and application. The game oriented teaching-learning process is interesting too. .
